Exploring Midtown Kansas City
Union Hill, Tower East, and Martini Corner
Located right in the heart of midtown, you’re never far away from the action at Union Hill! This scenic neighborhood sits just north of the “Tower East” area and not only overlooks downtown, but it’s also conveniently located close to some of the most popular venues in KC.
Make no mistake about it, though, Union Hill isn’t just a place to crash in-between big city adventures. The neighborhood itself offers a variety of different shops, restaurants, and nightlife venues to explore, including the increasingly popular Martini Corner Entertainment District,
With NFL and college football in full swing, Brick House and Tower Tavern are great places to grab some brews and watch the big game 🍻 If you’re searching for the perfect date night complement, Underdog Wine Co. has over 400 select wines to choose from in a small, family owned business. Or if you’re just looking to get your day started off on the right foot, Oh! Cafe and Filling Station are two of the best cafes in the area.
And if you’re a super foodie, you’re in luck! Union Hill residents are within walking distance of Costco, Billie’s Grocery, and other quaint convenience stores that are there for anything you need to whip up the perfect cocktail or grab a bite day or night.
Hyde Park
Visiting Hyde Park is almost like jumping into a real-life history textbook. From beautiful buildings designed by some of Kansas City’s most famous architects, to seven different landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places, a stroll through Hyde Park might be one of the closest things a KC resident has to time travel.
And not only is it historic, the neighborhood is still beautiful and thriving to this day! If you’re visiting for just the day, be sure to take a walk and enjoy the scenic views that encompass the entire neighborhood 🌳 Old Hyde Park is especially great for checking out some of KC’s best preserved turn-of-the-century architecture.
After that, Gillham Park is great for a quick game of tennis or pickleball, and Hyde Park Antiques can ensure that you take a piece of history home with you. If you visit during the right time of year, you may be able to catch the annual Historic Homes tour as well.
If you’re looking for more of a long term stay, Hyde Park is also a great place to raise a family. The entire neighborhood is filled with great educational opportunities, from public and private schools to charter schools and foreign language academies. On top of that, the residents of Hyde Park pride themselves on being some of the friendliest neighbors you’ll ever find!
No matter how long you stay, Hyde Park will leave you feeling connected to KC’s past, present and future ✨
Westport
Speaking of history, it’s nearly impossible to talk about places to explore in KC without bringing up its oldest neighborhood.
Over 150 years old, Westport has long since established itself as one of Kansas CIty’s premier entertainment districts. More than a place to get just rowdy on the weekends, though, this neighborhood offers several unique establishments.
For the fashionable, places like Clothz Minded, Buffalo Exchange, and Arizona Trading Company are great places for new, vintage, or secondhand clothing. If you’re really looking to up your KC cred, the Bunker is a great place for local gear, while Mid Coast Modern and Mills Record Company showcase all of the area’s best local artists 🙌.
Of course, Westport is also well known for its wide selection of restaurants. It’s hard to go wrong with established local favorites like Char Bar and Westport Flea Market, but don’t sleep on some of the new eateries in the area, such as Fat Sully’s and Denver Biscuit Company. With so many different things to do in Westport, it really is an explorer’s dream!
