The Best Coffee Shops in Kansas City for Remote Working
Sometimes working from home can be a bit of a distraction. One moment you could be working, and the next you get caught up reorganizing your closet. Raise your hand if you’ve been there… be honest 😂 Don’t worry, we’ve all done it at some point—we’re human!
While you may try to do your best away from the office, sometimes a change in scenery can do a little (or alotta) good. And a tried and true option is, of course, a coffee shop. But before you step into a crowded Starbucks, listening to the barista call out yet another pumpkin spice latte, our team at LeasingKC can offer you something better.
Since we know all things in and around town, we’ve scoped out the best coffee shops in Kansas City to keep your mind focused while enjoying the outdoor beauty of fall. Keep reading to learn more.
City Market Coffee House
Nestled in River Market, the City Market Coffee House is a perfect city delight. This shop has provided high-quality beans since 1996, all of which they source through fair trade farms that practice sustainability and ethical practices. So grab your laptop and a cup of brew, and enjoy the cozy environment with exposed brick walls (if that doesn’t say Kansas City; we don’t know what does). You can also take a breath of fresh air and sit outside, but don’t be surprised if you smell the aromas of the fantastic surrounding restaurants.
Not only do they sell coffee, they also have full breakfast, lunch, and milkshake menus (yeah, we had to throw that one in there). For breakfast, we recommend trying out the vegan burrito made with a chickpea scramble, potatoes, soyrizo, spinach, and salsa. Then for your lunch break, grab an italian panini filled with ham, salami, and provolone cheese 😋 Of course, if you’re a vegetarian or vegan, there are lunch options available. You can even make the milkshakes vegan!
Splitlog Coffee and Drive Thru is a small (but mighty) gem in Kansas City, KS. Founded by two brothers in 2017, Splitlog Coffee strives to bring the best coffee experience and customer service to everyone who walks through the door. You can choose to sit inside and work or you can take a seat on the outside picnic table, enjoying the views of the Strawberry Hill neighborhood.
Along with your coffee, you can also grab breakfast and lunch. Try out their sourdough pancakes topped with pumpkin butter and salted apples (does that say fall or what?) for breakfast. For lunch you can grab their adult take on the traditional PB&J.
If you’re on the Missouri side, they also have a location in Pendleton Heights.
Post Coffee Company
Head slightly south of the city to hit Lees Summit, home of Post Coffee Company. Located right off Chipman Road, this coffee shop has a little bit of everything—even wholesale coffee for businesses. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, so for warmer days you can head to the patio, and on cooler days you can cozy up in the shop. Wherever you get hungry, they have breakfast and lunch options. Or if you don’t have a huge appetite, they even have snack options like protein balls (yep, they’re vegan!) and parfaits.
Black Dog Coffee House
For those in Kansas, Black Dog Coffee House in Lenexa is definitely a must try for your remote work days. This cozy suburban cafe comes with all your coffee needs, and since it partners with Ibis Bakery next door, you can satisfy your sweet cravings too! As they say, a cookie a day keeps the doctor away (… or something like that 😉).
As you work, settle your hunger with an amazing salmon tartine for breakfast and a simple house salad for lunch—though it’s definitely not like the basic bags from the grocery story. Plus, with the array of students, artists, families, and other remote workers coming in and out, you may even make some new friends along the way.
Vested Coffee is a downtown shop you definitely don’t want to walk by without visiting. Since it’s built inside a renovated garment factory, you get a little history and a lot of great drinks. Plus, Vested gives back 10% to the city, so when you sit down, work, and grab a coffee, you’re also helping Kansas City grow.
You can try all the traditional coffees along with drinks such as chai lattes and matcha. And if you’re not a dairy drinker, they have multiple milk alternatives—almond, coconut, and even the infamous oat milk. For those times you want something a little sweet, we highly recommend their coconut macaroons for something unique and delicious (and they’re gluten free!). As a special treat on weekends, they also sell their apple fritters. So even if you aren’t working, feel free to drop on in.
Filling Station Coffee
If you love seeing the leaves fall, but don’t want to worry about the chill, then Filling Station Coffee in Overland Park is your answer! This bright and airy shop features high ceilings and huge glass windows, bringing in natural light and a view of the outside. They’re open every day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., so you can finish all your work for the day without them shutting off the lights.
The cafe offers all the usual drinks such as drip coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, and tea. And whenever you feel all coffee’d out, you can try out one of their fresh, live juices filled with nutritious fruits and vegetables such as kale, lemons, apples, and beets. For lunch, you can grab a turkey romesco sandwich or even a quinoa power power bowl. Seriously, the place has all you need, so why leave? Just kidding, you’re going to have to leave at some point.
Overland Park isn’t that close to you? No problem! The Filling Station actually has three other locations spread throughout the metro—Midtown, Crown Center, and Westport. So even if you’re closer to the heart of the city, you can still enjoy all this coffee shop has to offer.
