Unique and Adventurous Summer Activities for Small Groups
Who said summer has to be basic? Uh… not us! You could always stick to the norm like having a few friends over for a BBQ, but we’re going to challenge you to do something different this year.
We know it can be a little hard to find things to do that fit a smaller group, but don’t worry; we’ve got you! Here at LeasingKC we want everyone to make the most out of what Kansas City has to offer. You’d be surprised just how much adventure is just around the corner!
Keep reading for our top unique summer activities perfect for you and a few of your favorite people.
1. Grab your friends and swing from trees (no, seriously).
Within the forests of Swope Park lies the Go Ape Treetop Adventure course. Just a quick disclaimer: this course is 45ft in the air, so if you’re not into heights, they also have axe throwing that’s planted firmly on the ground.
Now if you’re willing to take on the challenge and embrace your inner Tarzan, then this course is definitely worth a go. This 2 to 3-hour adrenaline pumper is filled with 39 different crossings, five ziplines, two Tarzan swings, and rope ladders!
If you have kids you want to bring, just make sure they’re at least 10 years old 😉
2. Sip some wine, relax, and unwind.
If you’re a wine connoisseur (or want to pretend you’re one), then take a trip to Somerset Ridge Vineyard & Winery. It’s located in a quaint little town called Paola, KS, which is about 50 minutes away. But once you’re there you can relish in a vineyard with almost 9,000 grape vines with 12 varieties of grapes! They only use sustainable farming methods, meaning you get the highest quality wine possible. With wine tasting, food, and even live music, you and your friends are sure to have a blast.
3. Attack your friends with paintballs… underground.
What do you get when you combine a game of paintball and one of Kansas City’s oldest limestone mines? We’ll answer it for you—JAEGERS Subsurface Paintball. JAEGERS offers the world’s first and only underground paintball arena. No matter how good you are, step below the surface and see if you can rise above the competition. Plus, they have seven different arenas, so you could try just one or all of them if you’re up to it!
Not everyone wants to get hit by paintballs, so they also offer laser tag (which won’t give you bruises 😂). Oh, but don’t think this is just a regular ol’ laser tag; their area is the largest arena in Kansas City coming in at a whopping 6,000 square feet. It features fog, music, black lights, and other special effects to give you an experience you won’t forget.
4. Race your heart away in a real NASCAR Race Car
You’ll have to go to the infamous Kansas Speedway for this one. The Richard Petty Driving Experience gets you behind the wheel and surging through the tracks like a pro. You’ll first start with a meeting with the crew chief followed by training and instruction, then you’re off to the races!
As you drive, you don’t have to worry about a lead car to follow and an instructor won’t ride with you, ensuring that you truly get the experience of a lifetime. During your 5 to 48 minutes of track time, you’ll be able to zoom past slower cars (yes, you can totally do that) while getting one-on-one instruction from a spotter via a 2-way radio.
Just a heads up: this thrill may be something you’d want to save up for, because prices range from $199.99 to $3,599. Of course, you don’t have to choose the most expensive option, but sometimes trying something new is definitely worth the splurge.
