This is one of Kansas City’s coveted historic buildings built in 1902-1903 that were restored in 2017. The Colonnades consists of four self-sufficient buildings and 34 apartments in total overlooking Armour Blvd. Walking up to The Colonnades, you will see mature trees lining the street. This provides a shaded grass area leading up to the front porches supported by beautiful white columns of each building. As you approach, you will notice the historic detail preserved, but entering each apartment will give you a sense of modern living. Paradise Flats is a playful combination of Classic Revival historicism and contemporary finishes. Original Neoclassical details, as well as some charismatic interior elements have been preserved and restored, while new high-end finishes such as maple cabinetry, quartz counter tops and stainless steel appliances and dining room chandeliers have been added. Massive ionic columns frame comfortable front porches that overlook the park and the surrounding historic buildings.

Ambassador, located at Broadway and Knickerbocker Street, was constructed in 1925 to be the largest apartment hotel in Kansas City. Like the architecture of Country Club Plaza, Ambassador was designed in the Spanish Revival Style, as seen in its painted stucco, decorative tiles, terra cotta, tile roofs, and ornamental ironwork. The rooftop garden overlooking the city was often a common hangout for starlets such as Kim Novak. The newly restored apartment features 112 studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom units with a clean, contemporary, and efficient design. Centrally located on one of the most prominent streets in Kansas City that connects the Plaza, Westport, and Downtown, the Ambassador on Broadway Street offers convenience and accessibility. Alexander and its twin neighbor Cleopatra are Prairie Style residences built in the 1920’s. Their distinctive facades contain sweeping horizontal bands of stucco and masonry capped by expansive clay tile roofs, which extend to offer shade to the broad 2-story porches overlooking the quiet, tree-lined sidewalks of Locust Street. The original triumphal terra-cotta archway still crowns the exterior entry and extends through the lobby as a highly ornate plaster barrel vault, while a buff-colored marble terrazzo floor seamlessly fuses two towers together. The Newbern, a local landmark as designated by the Landmark Commission of Kansas City, is one of the most architecturally significant buildings we have restored in Kansas City. In rare and true Sullivanesque Style, The Newbern’s details are exceptional. The leaded-art glass transom over the main entrance, cut-and-dressed limestone, and carved terra cotta sills and stunning plaster ornament are some of the features of this eye-catching and remarkable building. Amidst Midtown, The Newbern embodies unassuming grandeur- comfortable, spacious and stately.
