9 Best Weekend Getaways for Kansas Citians
Kansas City is a place many people are proud to call their home. Even though living in Kansas City is awesome, sometimes you need a break from your routine. Here are nine nearby places that are awesome for a great weekend getaway!
1. Eureka Springs, Arkansas
Eureka Springs is a charming town in Northwest Arkansas that is home to wineries, haunted hotels, and surrounded by all of the beautiful nature that Arkansas has to offer. No matter what you’re interested in, you’ll likely be able to find some reprieve from the hustle and bustle when you make the trip.
2. Branson, Missouri
Great for family, Branson is home to lots of family-friendly activities like Silver Dollar City, Dixie Stampede, and countless other activities that will provide hours of family fun. If you can, try to hit up Silver Dollar City during one of their festivals!
3. Hermann, Missouri
Hermann is home to wineries, bed and breakfasts, and fabulous festivals. This town will have you saying, “I want to take the train to Hermann and drink all the wine!” If you plan to stay the night, make sure you book ahead as the rooms in Hermann fill up fast on the weekends!
4. Lincoln, Nebraska
Home of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln has a lot to offer! While you’re there, make sure you stop at the historic Haymarket and pick up some fantabulous ice cream at Ivanna Cone!
5. Omaha, Nebraska
For the Big City lovers, Omaha has a very similar vibe to Kansas City. If you want to take the time to explore another “small” big city, Omaha is the place for you! Plan your trip to make sure you hit the Omaha Zoo and Old Market!
6. St Louis, Missouri
Kansas City’s I-70 rival, St Louis is another city that has plenty of sights to see over a weekend. Make sure you take the time to stop by the City Museum (fun for all ages!) and the Spaghetti Factory. While you’re there, maybe catch a baseball game in their fabulous downtown stadium!
7. Des Moines, Iowa
Des Moines is a city that takes its urban outdoor living seriously. With a gorgeous botanical garden, sculpture park, and numerous outdoor trails, this getaway is perfect for the outdoorsy city folk who don’t want to get too far away from the nearest indoor plumbing. While you’re there – be sure to check out what’s going on at the Iowa State Fairgrounds!
8. Wichita, Kansas
Wichita offers one of the most diverse types of activities on the list. Visit Tanganyika Wildlife Park to pet a giraffe, explore the Museum of World Treasures, or stop by the Keeper of the Plains statue. There are also loads of fabulous dining experiences like Scotch & Sirloin or Public!

Hometown to famous Missourian Mark Twain, this quaint weekend getaway is home to sights such as the Mark Twain Boyhood Home, Molly Brown Museum, and even boat tours. Perfect getaway for the history lovers among us!
