Ambassador, located at Broadway and Knickerbocker Street, was constructed in 1925 to be the largest apartment hotel in Kansas City. Like the architecture of Country Club Plaza, Ambassador was designed in the Spanish Revival Style, as seen in its painted stucco, decorative tiles, terra cotta, tile roofs, and ornamental ironwork. The rooftop garden overlooking the city was often a common hangout for starlets such as Kim Novak. The newly restored apartment features 112 studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom units with a clean, contemporary, and efficient design. Centrally located on one of the most prominent streets in Kansas City that connects the Plaza, Westport, and Downtown, the Ambassador on Broadway Street offers convenience and accessibility. The Colonnades Apartments in Midtown KC!

This is one of Kansas City’s coveted historic buildings built in 1902-1903 that were restored in 2017. The Colonnades consists of four self-sufficient buildings and 34 apartments in total overlooking Armour Blvd. Walking up to The Colonnades, you will see mature trees lining the street. This provides a shaded grass area leading up to the front porches supported by beautiful white columns of each building. As you approach, you will notice the historic detail preserved, but entering each apartment will give you a sense of modern living. The only thing cookie-cutter about Interstate Flats is its history. Interstate Flats once housed the offices of Interstate Bakeries headquarters, who manufactured baked goods that you probably know such as Twinkies, Wonder Bread, and Ho Hos. Decades after Interstate Bakeries closed, Mac Properties was drawn to this midtown location for its history and proximity to downtown Kansas City. Every apartment has a unique floorplan with features borrowed from the old Hostess building. The apartments preserved and reused the building’s original frosted glass, solid wood doors and wall-to-wall windows. We also added some contemporary features like stainless steel appliances, synthetic wood flooring and European style cabinetry. The old courtyard was reimagined into a resident social area with an exterior grill and an indoor lounge. Every apartment at Interstate Flats is as unique as the residents who chose them.

Arc on Armour is an apartment residence located on Armour Boulevard in Kansas City. This conversion of a classic Mid-Century office building to rental homes started in July of 2019 finished in the fall of 2020. The distinct, modern units retain some unique characteristics of the original architecture. In Arc on Armour’s case, the distinguishing arches in the front were largely infilled with brick but now consist of reflective glass, giving each home full-height and full-width windows. Other original elements like the lobby’s terrazzo, the exposed concrete ceilings, and the masonry planters flanking the entrance, were retained and restored to further convey the character of the original architecture. With only 62 apartments, residents enjoy the amenities of a huge apartment development with a small community feel. The natural-toned light wood cabinets, open shelving, black marbleized quartz, and black accents paired with light laminate wood flooring and high exposed concrete ceilings all give a sense of openness with a side of stylish, modern vibes.
